Ingredients

• 1 kilo root vegetables, for example, potatoes, celeriac, carrot, and parsnip
• 1 onion, chopped (about 75 g)
• 1 l water
• 2 tbsp concentrated chicken stock
• 200 ml creme fraiche
• 1 tbsp wheat flour
• 100 ml herbs, chopped, for example, thyme, rosemary, and chives
• ½ tsp coarse salt
• freshly ground pepper
• 150 g bacon, in small cubes
• 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
• fresh herbs, chopped
• 300 g wholemeal bread
