  • 1 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 egg, well-beaten
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 4 cups of flour
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of nutmeg
  • Optional (but not really): 1/2 cup of Raisins.
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar and 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons of butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups of buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 6 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 4 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
  • Optional: Raisins. Somewhere between 1/3 to 1/2 of a cup. Some say no. Some say yes. Ultimately they belong there.
