Ingredients

• 2 pounds stewing beef
• 1 onion (diced)
• 2 sprigs thyme
• 2 sprigs parsley
• 1 bay leaf
• 1 cup red wine
• 4 ounces bacon (diced)
• 1/2 pound small white mushrooms (or button mushrooms)
• 1/2 pound pearl onions (or similar small onions)
• 2 tablespoons butter
• 1 tablespoon all-purpose ((plain flour))
• 1 cup beef broth (or stock)
• 1 clove garlic (halved)
