This popular WW II recipe was first created when eggs and butter were in short supply. Vegan and delicious, this chocolate cake is moist and oh-so-easy to make.
Ingredients
- 3 cups flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- ½ cup cocoa powder
- 2 cups cold water
- ⅔ cup canola oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
- 3 teaspoons hot water
- ¼ cup cocoa powder
- 3 cups confectioners’ sugar
- 1 ½ cups vegan butter, softened
