Chimichurri Hanger Steak - Beef Recipes - LGCM
One of the most flavorful steaks you can enjoy is a beef hanger steak, and this chimichurri hanger steak recipe is one of the most delicious ways to prepare
Ingredients
- Locate the membrane in the middle and cut on either side of that, separating the steak into two pieces. If you see more membrane on the inside of the steak, cut that out as well. Discard the membrane.
- Determine which way the grain of the steak is running – it should be running perpendicular to the length of the hanger steak.
- First, cut the steak with the grain into short sections, about 3 sections for the entire steak.
- Next, rotate the steak so that you are cutting across the grain and slice it into thin strips for serving.
- Grilled vegetables – grille vegetables like asparagus, bell peppers, or zucchini drizzled in olive oil and seasoned with salt and pepper would also be terrific with this recipe.
- Mixed green salad – balance off the richness of this chimichurri hanger steak with a crisp and light mixed green salad!
- Freshly baked bread or rolls – you’re going to get some hanger steak juices and leftover chimichurri on your plate. Having freshly baked bread to sop that all up is an excellent idea!
- 1 cup Parsley (chopped)
- 1 cup Cilantro (chopped)
- 1/2 Red Onion (chopped)
- 2 clove Garlic (minced)
- 1/2 cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 1/4 cup Red Wine Vinegar
- 2 Tbsp Lemon Juice
- 1 Tbsp Dried Oregano
- 1 tsp Kosher Salt
- 1/4 tsp Red Pepper Flakes
- 2 lb Hanger Steak (1 piece – about this size)
- Kosher Salt
- Black Pepper
- Combine the first 10 ingredients (parsley – red pepper flakes) in a bowl to make your chimichurri sauce. Let the sauce sit in the refrigerator while you do the next steps.
- Generously season your hanger steak on all sides with salt and black pepper.
- Once the steak is cooked, remove it from the grill and let it sit on a cutting board for five minutes. After letting it rest, cut it into thin slices against the grain, following the directions above.
- Spoon your chimichurri sauce over your sliced hanger steak to make chimichurri hanger steak. Enjoy with sides as suggested above and appreciate that you mastered a lesser known cut of beef!
