Ingredients

• 400 grams of fettuccine
• Water (for cooking the pasta)
• Salt to taste
• 500 grams of ripe tomatoes or a can of tomatoes (peeled and crushed)
• 2 tablespoons of olive oil
• 1 medium onion, finely chopped
• 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
• 1 small carrot, finely chopped (optional)
• 1 celery stalk, finely chopped (optional)
• 250 grams of ground beef (optional)
• 1 teaspoon of sugar
• 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
• 1 teaspoon of dried basil or a handful of fresh basil leaves
• Salt and pepper to taste
• 1 bay leaf (optional)
• 50 grams of grated Parmesan cheese (for serving)
