• 1 large Onion; chopped
• 2 large Garlic cloves; minced
• 3 cups Cabbage; shredded
• 2 large Celery stalks; sliced
• 2 large Carrots; peeled & sliced
• ⅓ cup Pearled barley
• 1 cup Potato cubes; peeled
• 5 Beef bouillon cubes
• 2 teaspoons Dried thyme leaves
• 1 teaspoon Dried basil leaves
• 1 teaspoon Chili powder
• ½ teaspoon Paprika
• 2 Bay leaves
• ¼ teaspoon Black pepper
• 6 cups Water
• 1 can Stewed tomatoes, (reduced-sodium/regular)
• Salt, to taste; optional
