Suya spice is the seasoning associated with suya, the spiced grilled skewers rooted in Hausa cooking. Often called yaji in this context, it commonly combines ground defatted peanut cake with chili, ginger and other seasonings. Recipes and commercial blends vary.
It is used as a rub or finishing seasoning for grilled foods. Peanut is an important potential allergen; a peanut-free adaptation is a different formulation, not something to assume from the blend's appearance.
