Connect RecipeSaint to ChatGPT

This guide walks you through connecting RecipeSaint to ChatGPT, step by step, written for non-technical users. It takes about three minutes.

Once connected, you can ask ChatGPT things like:

"Find a make-ahead brunch menu on RecipeSaint and build me a shopping list for eight people."

...and it will search, save, and build lists in your RecipeSaint account.

Before you start

You'll need:

  • A paid ChatGPT plan - custom connectors require Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, or Edu. (The free ChatGPT plan can't add custom connectors - if that's you, Claude's free plan can.)
  • The web app - set this up at chatgpt.com in a browser. Once added, the connector works in your other devices too.
  • A RecipeSaint account - register here if you don't have one (it's free).

Step 1: Turn on Developer mode

ChatGPT keeps custom connectors behind a switch called Developer mode. Despite the name, you don't need to be a developer - it's just a toggle.

  1. Open chatgpt.com and sign in.
  2. Click your profile picture (bottom-left), then Settings.
  3. Choose Apps in the settings sidebar (on some accounts it's labeled Connectors).
  4. Open Advanced settings and switch on Developer mode.

Step 2: Add RecipeSaint

  1. Still in Settings, go to Connectors and click Create (or Add connector).
  2. Fill in the form:
    • Name: Recipe Saint
    • MCP server URL:
https://www.recipesaint.com/api/mcp
  • Authentication: choose OAuth.
  1. Confirm/create the connector.

Step 3: Sign in and approve

  1. ChatGPT sends you to a RecipeSaint page. Sign in with your normal RecipeSaint account if asked.
  2. A consent screen lists exactly what ChatGPT will be allowed to do - searching recipes, managing your saved recipes, shopping lists, and menus, each spelled out.
  3. Click Connect.

You're returned to ChatGPT with the connector active.

Step 4: Try it

In a new chat, enable the Recipe Saint connector (the plus or tools menu near the message box) and ask:

  • "Search RecipeSaint for weeknight pasta and show me the top 3."
  • "Save your favorite and put its ingredients on a new shopping list."

Anything ChatGPT writes into your account shows up in Recipe Management, and recipes it creates carry a badge with its name so they're always distinguishable from yours.

A note on write actions

ChatGPT asks you to confirm before a connector changes anything (saving a recipe, adding to a list). That's normal and a good safety habit - approve the action and it proceeds.

Troubleshooting

I don't see Developer mode. It's only on the web app, and only on paid plans. Check you're at chatgpt.com in a browser, not the mobile app.

The connection fails during sign-in. Try once more - then contact us if it keeps failing.

ChatGPT doesn't use RecipeSaint in a chat. Make sure the connector is toggled on for that conversation (plus/tools menu near the message box), and ask for RecipeSaint by name.

I want to disconnect. Remove the connector in ChatGPT's settings. Access stops immediately; your RecipeSaint account is untouched.
