How to Search

  1. Go to the Recipe Search page
  2. Enter your search terms in the search box
  3. Press Enter or click the search button
  4. Browse the results

Search Tips

Use Specific Keywords

The more specific your search, the better your results:

  • Instead of "chicken", try "grilled lemon chicken"
  • Instead of "cake", try "chocolate lava cake"

Search by Ingredient

Looking for recipes that use specific ingredients? Include them in your search:

  • "recipes with avocado and lime"
  • "salmon asparagus dinner"

Search by Cuisine

Include cuisine types in your search:

  • "Italian pasta recipes"
  • "Thai curry vegetarian"

Search Filters

Narrow any search with inline filters, right in the search box. Filters work alongside normal keywords ("butter chicken site:allrecipes.com") or on their own ("category:Dessert" browses every dessert in the index).

site: — only recipes from one website

  • site:allrecipes.com butter chicken — butter chicken from AllRecipes only
  • You can paste a full URL; we clean it up: site:https://www.example.com/x works
  • www. is optional, but subdomains are exact: site:cooking.nytimes.com

category: — filter by dish category

  • category:Dessert apple — apple desserts
  • cat: is a shortcut: cat:dessert apple works the same
  • Multi-word categories go in quotes: category:"Main Course"
  • Friendly names are understood: cat:sides finds Side Dish recipes

ingredient: — must contain an ingredient

  • ingredient:chicken tacos — taco recipes that actually contain chicken
  • ing: is a shortcut; quote multi-word ingredients: ing:"lime juice"
  • Repeat it to require several: ingredient:chicken ingredient:garlic

time: — maximum total time (minutes)

  • time:30 soup — soups ready in 30 minutes or less
  • Ranges and comparisons work: time:30-60, time:<45, time:>=60
  • Hours are fine too: time:1h

Excluding things with a minus

  • pasta -bacon — pasta recipes without bacon (checked against title and ingredients)
  • Quote phrases: stir fry -"soy sauce"
  • Negate whole filters: chicken -site:example.com or -cat:dessert

The search box suggests filter values as you type: enter cat: and the dropdown lists categories; site: suggests popular sites; ing: suggests ingredients.

Viewing Recipes

Recipe Cards

Search results show recipe cards with:

  • Recipe title
  • Source website
  • Ingredient preview
  • Recipe image (when available)

Recipe Details

Click on any recipe to see:

  • Full ingredient list
  • Brief description
  • Link to the original source

Saving Recipes

When you find a recipe you like:

  1. Click the Save button on the recipe card
  2. The recipe is added to your saved collection
  3. Access saved recipes anytime from your Dashboard

You must be logged in to save recipes. Create an account if you haven't already.
