Chicory Chocolate Cake from the Garden & Gun Club – Garden & Gun

Ingredients

• 2 cups all-purpose flour
• 2 cups sugar
• 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
• 1 tsp. baking soda
• ¼ tsp. salt
• 2 eggs
• ½ cup buttermilk
• 1 tsp. vanilla extract
• ¼ cup coffee liqueur (Tia Maria, Kahlúa, or Patron espresso)
• 1 cup water
• 4 oz. butter (1 stick)
• ½ cup vegetable oil
• ⅓ cup cocoa powder
• ⅓ cup chicory (or a coffee liqueur like Hoodoo Chicory Liqueur or St. George NOLA Coffee Liqueur)
• 3 cups powdered sugar
• 2 cups pecans, chopped and toasted (optional)
