- 1 tablespoon chopped garlic
- 2 teaspoons chopped fresh thyme
- 1/2 cup dry white wine
- 2-1/2 cups chicken broth
- 1-1/2 cups beef broth
- 1/2 cup pearl barley
- 1 bay leaf
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 3/4 cup all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon finely chopped rosemary
- 3/4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1-1/2 tablespoons cold butter, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
- 2 teaspoons grainy mustard
- 5 tablespoons 2-percent milk
