• 2 1/2 to 3 pound whole chicken (or leftover turkey)
• 3 cups water
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 1/2 cup butter (one 4-ounce stick, melted)
• 29 ounces mixed vegetables (drained)
• 1 small yellow onion (chopped)
• 1 can (10 3/4 ounce) condensed cream of chicken soup, undiluted
• 2 cups chicken broth (RESERVED from stewing the whole chicken)
• 1/8 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
• freshly ground black pepper (a few grinds)
• 1 cup self rising flour
• 1 cup milk
