Ethiopian Lentils (Misir Wot) and Collards (Gomen) | Cook Smarts
Here is a chance to make a popular pair of Ethiopian dishes at home in your own kitchen. Both recipes use spices to add flavor to otherwise humble ingredients -
Ingredients
- 1/2 Onions, medium, diced
- 2 cloves Garlic, chopped
- 1 Jalapenos (opt), thinly sliced (seeds removed for less spice)
- 2 bunches Collard greens, stems removed, leaves chopped (sub kale)
- 1 tsp Coriander, ground
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Cumin, ground
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric, ground
- 1/4 tsp Cardamom, ground
- 1 Limes, wedges
- 3 Tbsp Ghee (sub butter)
- 2 Tbsp Tomato paste
- 2 tsp Berbere spice, more or less to taste
- 2 1/2 cups Water
- 1 cup Lentils, red and uncooked
- for serving Flatbread (use Injera if you can find it, but naan or pita will work as a substitute)
