Ingredients

  • ¼ teaspoon ground turmeric
  • Mint, Green Chilli & Yoghurt Dipping Sauce, to serve
  • 500 ml (17 fl oz/2 cups) peanut (groundnut) or vegetable oil, for frying
  • 50 g (1¾ oz/⅓ cup) plain (all-purpose) flour
  • 2 large red onions, 1 finely chopped, 1 halved and thinly sliced
  • ¼ teaspoon chilli powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 50 g (1¾ oz) chickpea flour (besan)
  • ¼ teaspoon cumin seeds
