- 60 ml (1/4 cup) butter
- 500 g (2 cups) maple sugar
- 250 ml (1 cup) maple syrup (preferably dark syrup for its robust flavour)
- 2 cans of evaporated milk of 354 ml (12 oz)
- 24 g (3 tablespoons) cornstarch
- 125 ml (1/2 cup) water
- 30 ml (2 tablespoons) butter
- 5 ml (1 teaspoon) vanilla extract
- 110 g (1 cup) roasted walnuts, chopped
