Ingredients

• For the noodle cake:
• 2 pounds dried spaghetti
• 2 cups chopped onions
• 1/2 stick (1/4 cup) unsalted butter
• 6 large eggs
• 2 cups heavy cream
• 1/2 pound provolone, grated
• 1/2 pound whole-milk mozzarella, grated
• 1/2 pound smoked ham, diced
• 2 cups freshly chopped parsley leaves (preferably flat-leaf)
• 1 Tablespoon salt
• 1 Tablespoon pepper
• For the sauce:
• 1/2 cup olive oil
• 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
• 4 large tomatoes, peeled and chopped coarse
• 3/4 cup clarified butter
