Marina’s Hamin (Cholent) | Challenge 22
Hamin – or Cholent – is a traditional Jewish stew, usually simmered overnight for 12 hours or more.
Ingredients
- ½ cup dry white beans (or 90 g)
- ½ cup dry chickpeas (or 100 g)
- ½ cup wheat kernels (or 170 g)
- ½ cup grits (or 85 g)
- 1 onion
- 2 tbsp oil (ideally canola)
- 4 potatoes, cut into quarters
- 3-6 garlic cloves
- ¼ cup soy sauce (or 60 g), or 1 tsp salt, or 1-2 tbsp of vegan broth or stock powder
- 1 tbsp date syrup (not essential)
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp cumin
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp salt
