Ingredients

• 1 1/2 cups (375 mL) yellow split peas
• 4 1/2 cups (1.125 L) water
• 1 tsp (5 mL) salt
• 4 cups (1 L) chopped cooked ham (approx. 1 lb/450 g)
• 1/2 cup (125 mL) chopped onion
• 1/2 cup (125 mL) grated carrot
• 2 cups (500 mL) Milk
• A pinch of Cayenne pepper
• A pinch of grated nutmeg
