Cheese slices with raclette and onion topping

Ingredients

• 1 - 2 gratin dishes or 1 ovenproof baking tray
• 3 red onions, cut into strips
• 2 tbsp oil for frying
• 3 tbsp balsamic vinegar, red or white
• 2 tsp raw sugar
• ½ cinnamon stick
• 2 ground cloves
• Freshly ground pepper
• 1 pinch salt
• 8 slices of stale bread
• 1 dl white wine
• 8 ham slices
• 300 - 500 g sliced raclette cheese
