Pork and Shrimp Dumpling
Pork and shrimp shumai (pronounced "shoo-my") are tender, steamed dumplings that originated in China and have become a favorite worldwide.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground pork
- 1/4 pound shrimp, minced
- 1/4 pound shrimp, coarsely ground
- 1 tablespoon onion, minced
- 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons rice wine
- 3 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 4 tablespoons potato starch or all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 pack wonton wrappers (thin)
- 1/4 cup shiitake mushrooms, finely chopped (optional)
- Crab roe or a single pea, for garnish (optional)
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon hot chili oil or your favorite Asian hot sauce (optional, for a spicy kick)
