Happy Wife, Happy Life Chocolate Cake
This is cookbook author Julia Turshen's wife's favorite cake recipe. It's "incredibly easy to make and is decadent without being too heavy or too sweet," she writes.
Ingredients
- 1¼ cups flour
- 1 cup sugar
- ¾ cup Dutch-process cocoa powder (such as Guittard or Droste), sifted if lumpy
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted and cooled
- 2 eggs, lightly beaten
- 1 cup strong black coffee, at room temperature
- 1 cup buttermilk or plain yogurt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¾ cup semisweet chocolate chips or roughly chopped semisweet chocolate
- ¾ cup sour cream, at room temperature
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- ½ cup raspberry jam (seeded or seedless, whatever your preference)
