- 2 cups of buttermilk (our favorite) or water
- Vegetable Oil, for frying
- 4-8 slices American cheese (as desired for cheesiness)
- 4 hamburger buns (preferably potato or brioche rolls)
- Your favorite Tartar Sauce (see note)
