Ingredients

• 1 quart vegetable oil
• 1/4 cup cornstarch
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• 1 teaspoon salt
• additional salt to taste
• 1 cup all-purpose flour
• 1 to 1 1/2 cups beer
• 4 large russet potatoes
• 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
• 2 pounds cod fish
