• 2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
• 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
• 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
• 3/4 cup buttermilk
• 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
• 3 large eggs
• 1 cup sugar
• 3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
• 1 cup fig preserves
• 1 cup chopped ripe fresh figs or more fig preserves
• 1 cup chopped pecans, toasted
• Confectioner's sugar
