- ½ cup stone-ground cornmeal
- ½ cup white whole wheat flour
- ¼ cup dark brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
- ½ teaspoon ground ginger
- ⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon orange zest
- ¾ cup dried cranberries
- ½ cup coarsely chopped pecans
- 8 tablespoons cold, unsalted butter, cut into ¼” cubes
- ½ cup sweet potato puree (preferably from oven roasted Garnet potatoes- I used a 7 oz. potato)
- 1 large egg
- ⅓ cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon good quality maple syrup
- egg wash made from 1 egg whisked together with 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- ¼ cup good quality maple syrup for drizzle
