Round-Steak Chili

Ingredients

• 1 lb beef round steak (trimmed and cut into 1/2-in. cubes)
• 1 large onion (chopped)
• 2 garlic cloves (minced)
• 53/4 cups vegetable juice (such as V8)
• 1 can crushed tomatoes
• 2 cups celery (sliced)
• 1 medium green pepper (chopped)
• 1 bay leaf
• 2 tbsp chili powder
• 1 tsp brown sugar
• 1 tsp dried oregano
• 1/2 tsp celery seed
• 1/2 tsp paprika
• 1/2 tsp mustard powder
• 1/2 tsp ground cumin
• pinch cayenne pepper
• pinch dried basil
• 16 oz kidney beans (rinsed and drained)
