- Bay leaves, 3 whole none
- Garlic cloves, 4 minced
- Bottle of stout beer, 1 bottle preferably Irish
- Water, enough to cover the brisket none
- Red potatoes, 8 medium halved
- Carrots, 4 peeled and sliced into 2-inch pieces
- Large head of cabbage, 1 large head cut into small wedges
- Fresh parsley, handful chopped for garnish
- Salt and pepper, to taste none
