• 2-1/3 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
• 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
• 1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
• 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
• 1/2 teaspoon coarsely cracked black peppercorns
• 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
• 1/4 teaspoon ground gloves
• 1/4 teaspoons coarse sea or kosher salt
• 16 tablespoons (2 sticks) unsalted butter (at room temperature)
• 1-3/4 cups white granulated sugar
• 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
